The Singing Stone — SR-0044

The first deliberate resonant record: a crystal that held a lantern’s pattern for eleven turns.

Shaped like a bell and tuned by hand, the Singing Stone was struck while a lantern shone through it. For eleven turns afterward it rang with the lantern’s pattern folded into its note.

It is the founding object of the Resonance, and the Ithra kept it in the first chamber of the Mereth Libraries until the libraries themselves were read into the Choir.

The strike frequency (in their units) implies a resonant mode we reproduce in the Resonance instrument as mode (5, 3).

Integrity 69%. Tuned crystal. 40 × 32 cm.
