Sand that settled on a singing plate, fixed in place: a standing wave made visible.

Scatter fine dust on a plate and make it sing, and the dust gathers on the places that do not move. The Ithra used plates like this to see the shape of a sound before they trusted a crystal with it.

This one was fixed with a glaze at the moment the dust settled, and kept as a teaching object. The pattern is still perfectly symmetric after thirty-six thousand years in transit.
