Atlas of the Vael System

Vael — The patient star. An old orange star that swelled into a red giant over the Reddening, boiling Ithris and swallowing Carrow.

Carrow — The world of the twilight band. A tidally locked world, one face burning and one frozen — and between them, the observatories.

Ithris — The homeworld of tides. An ocean world with two moons, forty-metre tides and archipelagos that glowed at night.

Sollen — The ringed giant of gardens. A banded gas giant whose rings held the orbital gardens of the Long Noon.

The Scatter — Debris of an unmade world. A belt of rock and ice that never became a world, mined for the glass of the Choir.

Mereth — The ice that remembers. A frozen world whose cold kept the Resonant Libraries still for twenty thousand turns.

Ennis — The dark world that sang. The outermost world, girdled by the Choir: the lattice that turned a civilization into light.
