The Lantern of Ossa Who Waits — SR-0021

The oldest named thing in the archive: a lantern that waited for someone for sixty years.

Ossa Who Waits was a household lantern in a fishing town on the Senn Reach. Her keeper taught her a single sequence — come home — and went to sea.

The keeper did not come back. Ossa repeated her sequence every night for sixty-one turns, until she died. The town kept her glass, and her story, and fifty-eight thousand years later they put both into the signal.

The sequence “come home” (7 pulses, 2 rests, 3 pulses) is the most repeated phrase in the entire stream after the carrier itself.
